Dahi Vada

Dahi Vada

Dahi Vada is a popular Indian snack generally served chilled. There are quite a few variations to this dish since some regions in India add sugar, while others do not. Sometimes cut green chillies are added to the non sugar based Dahi Vada's. The recipe below contains sugar, but you may not add it based on your preference.

Ingredients

1 cup Urad Dal (Black gram/lentil)
3/4 kgs Curd (Dahi, Plain Yogurt)
2 tsp Roasted Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
Red Chilli Powder
Coriander Leaves
Tamarind Date Chutney
Salt to taste
3 tsp Sugar
Oil to Fry
Bowl of Water to soak the Vada's

Directions

For Vada
Wash and soak Urad Dal Overnight.
Grind into a smooth batter.
Heat oil, drop big spoonful of batter.
Fry the vada’s till golden brown.
Keep a bowl full of cold water ready.
Remove the vada’s and immediately put it in the bowl of water.
Keep it for 3 minutes, remove it and squeeze all the water. Keep the vada’s aside.
For Dahi

Now add little water so that the curd becomes smooth. Let it be medium thick. So be careful when you add water.
Add salt, sugar and the roasted cumin powder. Mix it.
Keep the vada’s in a deep bowl and add the curd to it.
