Makhmali Dal


Makhmali Dal

Makhmali Dal a richer version of the staple dal. A touch of cream and spices to jazz up the humble dal for a special occasion

Ingredients

2 tablespoon oil
2 cups masoor dal washed and soaked over night
1 large tomato chopped
1 onion chopped fine
1 tsp garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder (dhania)
1/2 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp light cream (optional)

Directions

Pressure cook the masoor dal with a little salt
In a vessel, heat oil, add jeera, then tomatoes, turmeric, coriander powder and chilli powder
Cook the tomatoes until the oil separates
Add the tomato mixture to the dal, mix it well and let it simmer
Adjust salt if necessary. The dal should be of thick consistency.
Add the light cream and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve with steamed rice or naan/rotis.
