Masoor da Gassi (Mangalorean Style Masoor Curry)
Masoor da Gassi is a spicy coconut based masoor Curry.
Ingredients
200 gms masoor1 cup coconut grated
1 tsp mustard seeds
4-5 red dried chillies
2 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp jeera
2-3 flakes of garlic chopped fine
salt to taste
sugar to taste(optional)
1 tsp lemon juice
For tempering
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 string curry leaves
2-3 flakes of garlic chopped fine
1 onion chopped fine
Directions
Boil masoor until cooked and keep aside.In a pan, heat oil then add mustard seeds, when they start crackling, add red chillies.
Then add coriander seeds and jeera. when they turn redish brown add the coconut and mix well. Grind this with garlic
but without water.
Now for the tempering, in a sauce pan add oil, mustard seeds when they start crackling,
add curry leaves,onion and garlic. when the onions turn golden brown add the masala. fry it for some time.
Then add the masoor and salt and cook for 10 to 15 mins. Add lemon juice and sugar.
