Meen da Rassa (Mangalorean Style Fish Curry)

Meen da Rassa is the traditional Mangalorean spicy and sour Fish Curry generally served with rice.

Ingredients

1 pomfret cut into pieces ( or any medium sized fish like Bangda-Mackerel )
1/2 coconut grated
8-10 dried red cillies
8-10 black pepper seeds
1 pinch of ajwain(looks like jeera)
1 pinch methi seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp jeera
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 onion chopped fine
2 flakes garlic chopped fine
1 small ball of tamarind

Directions

In a pan heat oil, methi, mustard seeds, pepper seeds and red chillies.
After it turns brown, add coriander seeds and jeera.
Add coconut, garlic, onion, tamarind and the above masala in a grinder and grind it to a smooth paste.
Put this paste in saucepan and add 1 cup of water and salt and heat it.
Then add cut green chillies and ginger and coriander leaves.
When it starts boiling add the fish pieces and cook a little more until the fish is cooked.
