Nungel Meen da Rassa (Dry Fish Curry Mangalorean Style)


Nungel Meen da Rassa is the traditional Mangalorean spicy and sour Fish Curry, but uses dried Fish. It is generally served with rice.

Ingredients

10-15 dry fish
1/2 coconut grated
4-5 dried red chillies
8-10 black pepper seeds
1 pinch of ajwain(looks like jeera)
1 pinch methi seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp jeera
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 onion
2 flakes garlic chopped fine
1 very small ball of tamarind

Directions

In a pan heat oil, methi, mustard seeds, pepper seeds and red chillies.
When it turns brown add coriander seeds and jeera.
Add 1/2 coconut, garlic, onion, tamarind and the above masala in a grinder and grind it to a smooth paste.
Put this paste in saucepan and add 1 cup of water and salt and heat it.
Then add cut green chillies and ginger and coriander leaves.
When it starts boiling add the fish pieces and cook a little more until the fish is cooked.
