Tangy Mangy Mangalorean Delicacies by Ananya
I'm Ananya and I will be sharing some mangalorean recipes with you. These recipes have been passed on through generations in my family.
Mangalore is a small coastal town in south Karnataka (South India). It is lush green and beautiful with plenty of coconut trees making up the landscape.Since coconut is abundantly available it is used extensively in most Managlorean recipes. The sweet taste of coconut in a spicy red chilly based curry is a refreshing change from the usual tomato based curries. The same coconut when used in sweet dishes can result in a lovely creamy textured payasam.
When south Indian food comes to mind people think of idli, sambhar and Masala Dosa. Believe me there is a lot more to this elegant style of cooking. Spicy and tangy fish Curry (Meen da Rassa), rich and creamy chicken gravy (Kori da Rassa), healthy and filling soups Tomato Saar), Soft and fluffy coconut dosas (appam) and not to forget the various sweet dishes (payasam, Holige).
Come join me in my journey to rediscover south Indian food!!!
